In the realm that is artificial intelligence, the concept that AI is "singularity" looms large.
The concept is ambiguous and is the time when AI surpasses human control and swiftly changes the way society is.
The tricky thing about AI singularity (and why it borrows terminology from black hole Physics)
It's extremely difficult to determine the point at which it will begin and is virtually impossible to determine what's beyond the technological "event the horizon."
AI researchers are looking for indications of reaching a state of the point of singularity as which is measured by AI advances that approach the level of skills and abilities of humans.
One of these metrics, as described by Translated the Rome-based translation firm, is an AI's capability to translate speech with the level of human accuracy.
Language is among the most challenging AI problems, however computers that can reduce that gap might be able to exhibit evidence towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
"That's because language is the most natural thing for humans," Translated's its CEO Marco Trombetti said at a press conference held in Orlando,
Florida, in December. "Nonetheless, the data Translated collected clearly shows that machines are not that far from closing the gap."
The company monitored its AI's performance between 2014 and 2022 by using a measure known as "Time to Edit," or TTE.
