The 12-year old boy of Massachusetts has caught a magnificent white shark during fishing charters in Florida.
Campbell Keenan spent 45 minutes wrestling to reel in the fish, but it wasn't close enough to determine what species it was.
We realized it was a shark when it was like 20 feet away, probably, and we had to get it in.
We put this, like, buoy on it to make it not go under," Campbell said to ABC News in an interview.
If it got near enough to the boat, captain Campbell told us it was a fantastic white shark, and everyone aboard the vessel seemed "ecstatic," Campbell said.
"When you pull the rod up, it was like lifting a 50-pound weight," Campbell stated. "It was so hard to pull up."
The fish was found to be an 11-foot long shark, estimated to weigh between 400-700 pounds, Keenan's mom, Colleen Keenan said to ABC News in an interview.
Campbell was reeling. The first mate was helping Campbell, telling him to allow the rod drop down, and then bring it up and then reel while he was pulling it up.
And I was holding onto Campbell since he wasn't tied down and the white might easily taken him on a cruise," Colleen Keenan said.
Campbell stated that they did not bring the shark inside the boat due to rules within the U.S.
