Jeremy Renner was trying to keep his nephew who is now an adult from getting injured by a snowplow when the latter was hit by his 14330-pound snowplow at New Year's Day.
Based on the Washoe County Sheriff's Office incident report, which was filed Friday and published on Wednesday through CNN and The Avengersactor,
The Mayor of Kingstown and The Avengersactor, 52, employed the snowcat in order to pull his nephew's truck from the snow at the Reno, Nev., property and to the main road.
The plow began sliding down the slope, so Renner took off. But the emergency brake wasn't in use and the plow that runs on an incline, slid into the direction of the nephew.
"The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake," the report by the sheriff concluded.
"Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward.
When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to [his nephew], he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over."
The report also noted an indicator for the brake light within the cab of the snowcat was not functioning and stated it was possible that "mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident."
