Search and rescue teams have been searching the Baldy Bowl region of Mt. Baldy located in the San Bernardino Mountains since that time.
Ground crews initially were assigned to the search but were retracted on Saturday night because of the possibility of avalanches and the adverse weather conditions.
The search continues in the days following through drones and helicopters in the event of weather conditions that have allowed visibility,
The ground search will be resumed after it's deemed safe for the search and rescue team returning to the region.
Sands first gained attention by playing supporting roles in the 1984 film Oxford Blues and The Killing Fields.
His breakthrough was a year later when he appeared in the film A Room With A View which was the Merchant Ivory adaptation of E.M. Forster's novel of 1908.
Sands was the lead in the romantic film George Emerson, opposite Helena Bonham Carter as Lucy Honeychurch.
